How alerts work
Alerts are tied to dashboards in Tubular. When the conditions you define are met — a view spike, a momentum shift, or a new video appearing — you and anyone you've added to the alert receive an email notification with a summary of what changed.
Alerts are not real-time. They conform to Tubular's standard data update schedule, so notifications are delivered once per day when conditions are triggered.
Note: Alerts can only be set on dashboards (including dashboard groups). Other surfaces like saved searches and trending videos are planned for future releases.
How to set up an alert
You can create an alert on any dashboard or dashboard group in just a few steps.
- Open the dashboard or dashboard group you want to monitor.
- Click the bell icon next to the exports icon at the top of the dashboard.
- In the Alerts module that opens, select your alert type (Threshold, Momentum, or New Video).
- Set your conditions — choose the metric, time window, and threshold value.
- Add the email addresses of everyone who should receive notifications, separated by commas.
- Save the alert. It will activate immediately and check against your conditions daily.
You can set up as many alerts as you need. Notification emails may be limited to the top 100 results for a dashboard, or the top 5 videos per dashboard group.
Alert types
Choose the type of alert that best aligns with the insights you want to be notified about:
Threshold Triggers when a dashboard (or video) hits a specific volume of gains in a set time window. Example: 500K views gained in the last 7 days
Momentum Triggers when a dashboard (or video) changes pace — up or down — by a set percentage. Example: engagements up 50% in the last 30 days
New video Triggers when a new video matching your dashboard search exceeds a minimum view or engagement count. Example: new videos added with 100K+ views
All three types support views and engagements as metrics, and 3, 7, or 30-day lookback windows.
Edit and manage alerts
From the dashboard
Click the bell icon on any dashboard to reopen the Alerts module. From there you can update conditions, adjust the time window, or modify who receives notifications.
From account settings
Navigate to: Account settings → My Content → Alerts
The Alerts management page gives you a full view of every alert in your account. From here you can:
- Edit alert parameters and conditions
- Enable or disable individual alerts
- Update email notification recipients
- Delete alerts you no longer need
Note: Any account holder can currently view, edit, and delete any alert in the account. More granular management controls are planned for future releases.
How to read your notification
Notifications are sent when your alert set-up conditions are met. When an alert fires, everyone on the email list receives a notification summary. Here's what's included:
Metrics
The notification summarizes how the content changed during the alert window — including views gained, engagements, and the number of videos included. Momentum alerts will also show the percentage change vs. the prior comparable period.
Alerts include the following information:
- Name of the alert
- A summary of the alert conditions you selected
- Views or engagements gained in the selected time period (plus the percentage of growth compared to the previous time period)
- For a saved dashboard search or video alerts, the top videos in the selected time period
- For saved dashboard groups, the channels that crossed the alerts threshold (plus top videos per channel)
- Top videos will include views, engagements, or uploads for the selected time period, plus links to the Tubular video page and the original social post.
Links
Each notification includes two types of links, depending on who receives it:
- Tubular users in your account get a direct link into the Tubular dashboard and embedded video pages for the full data view.
- External recipients (outside your account) can see the notification data, but their links go to the native social platform (YouTube, Instagram, etc.) instead of Tubular.
- At the end of each notification email, there will be a link back to the Tubular dashboard as well as a direct link to your account settings page where alerts can be managed (edited, updated, and deleted).
